Kaiser Permanente and Emory:
Better Together

As you might know, Kaiser Permanente partners with Emory Healthcare to provide care to our members when they need the hospital. When you visit an Emory hospital, you can feel confident you’ll be in good hands with an organization known for quality and innovation. Add to that the partnership with Kaiser Permanente, and our members get even more benefits like personalized, coordinated care and lower costs.

Emergency Care

In an emergency, you have access to any hospital emergency room, including any Emory ER.* When you choose our partner, Emory, you’ll get:

  • Experience and quality: Emory Healthcare is the most comprehensive academic health system in Georgia and has a reputation for quality care.
  • Cost-savings: Because of our partnership with Emory, you’ll usually have lower out-of-pocket costs than at other ERs.
  • Convenience: Our partnership also means you won’t have any claims to file after your visit.

When you need care quickly but it’s not an emergency, you have many options for getting care quickly and conveniently.

At Emory Decatur and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospitals, Kaiser Permanente partners to provide your care, so you’ll get additional benefits:

  • Care from Kaiser Permanente physicians who can access your electronic medical record to help provide personalized care, prevent allergic reactions to drugs, and avoid duplicate tests.
  • If you need follow-up care once your emergency condition has been stabilized, you can receive that care right at Emory. [At most other hospitals (except Northside Hospital Atlanta or Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite), once you’re stabilized, you will likely be moved to Emory Decatur Hospital or Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital for any follow-up care.]

Inpatient Care

When you need inpatient care—such as a surgery, procedure, or other elective care at the hospital—it will likely be at Emory Decatur or Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital. (Members in the Athens service area have access to care at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.) Your primary care doctor will coordinate your care and guide you to the most appropriate location.

With these two Emory locations, you’ll benefit from:

  • Care from Kaiser Permanente physicians who can access your electronic medical record to help provide personalized care, prevent allergic reactions to drugs, and avoid duplicate tests.
  • The support of expert Emory providers connected to your care team.

Labor and delivery

We partner with Emory Decatur Hospital to provide labor and delivery services to our members.

  • Emory Decatur was the first hospital in Georgia to be recognized as a Baby-Friendly hospital, and their Wellness Center is Medically-accredited.
  • Your Kaiser Permanente maternity care team will be onsite with you for round-the-clock care.
  • Your care team will have access to your electronic medical record to help personalize your care.

Kaiser Permanente members also have access to labor and delivery services at Northside Hospital Atlanta, where a Kaiser Permanente maternity care team will be onsite.
